Why Our Digital Ballast?

With over 20 years of growing experience and within that time utilizing many of the ballasts available on the market Positronics set out to develop a digital dimming ballast for todays grower taking into account energy efficiency and a higher quality product.  The  pinnacle goal for all indoor  gardeners is lush foliage, sturdy weight-bearing stems, dark green leaves, fast sustainable growth with sweet and fragrant high-yielding flowers and fruits. 
Positronics digital ballasts have several features which make them hands-down the best technology for high-wattage indoor gardening or greenhouse supplemental lighting.  The Positronics Digital Ballast 400W, 600W and 1000W are slim, lightweight, and easy to maintain.  All of our ballasts run 30% cooler and are a ¼ of the weight of comparable magnetic ballasts and are so versatile that they can run multiple voltages, from 120V to 240V and can power both MH and HPS bulbs.
The Positronics 600W and 1000W dimming ballast are energy efficient, quieter and run cooler then traditional magnetic ballasts and have the added bonus of a light which can multi-task.  High-temperature summer days require a cooler room, dimming the lights can minimize indoor garden temperatures therefore reducing plant stress as well as controlling pests who thrive on higher temperatures.  Dimming the ballast light can aid in hardening off seedlings and new transplants and by starting your plants under a lower power setting and progressively increasing the light output to intensify the plants growth the result will be greater and thicker yeilds. 
The Positronics Digital Ballast is the latest in horticulture power supply innovations which means the days of the old humming, magnetic core and coil-type ballasts has quickly come to an end.  The Positronics Digital ballast do not have any of the usual transformers, capacitors or igniters; instead these ballasts have electronic circuitry to do the same job with greater efficiency.  What might take a standard coil/magnetic ballast between 700W-720W to fire a standard 600 watt bulb, will take our digital ballast only 610W-630W to fire the same bulb to equal brightness.  The old coil type ballasts are hard starting ballasts; when the ballast fires the bulb it sends full power to the cold bulb which over time will shorten the bulb life and reduces the PAR output of the bulb (PAR represents the light spectrum that plants “see” and "need", versus lumens which are visable to the human eye).  Digital ballasts start by sending a low amount of power to the bulb and steadily increase the power over the next few minutes until the bulb has reached full brightness.  This is also known as soft starting, which minimizes the damage to the bulb and increases its PAR life and after one year of use the plants usable light coming from bulbs that are run on digital ballasts has decreased only by 20-25% where as the same bulb being used in the coil type ballast would have lost 50-60% of its plant usable light over the same period of time allowing greater use and longevity of the bulb.
